Northern Lights - November 2025

The Sun put on a show this November! Very fortunate to have dark skies and have the opportunity to stand underneath the northern lights dancing overhead. The following images and timelapses were from November 11-12 and November 12-13, both which were considered G4 (severe) geomagnetic storms.

I was able to get probably one of my favorite pictures that I’ve taken so far on November 12th:

Taken with Google Pixel’s Astrophotography mode on my Pixel 9 Pro XL. I was wearing a red headlamp to light up the corn stubble, the phone was on a very low Gorilla pod on the ground.

My rig for the time-lapse videos is pretty janky:

Pixel 7 Pro XL
U Beesize Tripod
GoalZero battery bank (duct-taped to the tripod XD)
Intervalometer App (Google Play)

The Intervalometer was set to “press” the shutter button on the Pixel’s Astrophotography camera mode every 250 seconds. The max single instance time is 4 minutes, leaving a little padding for processing after each capture. Each 4 minute instance produces a 1 second video loop, which were stitched together in DaVinci Resolve to make the time-lapse.
